Rhonda Benin, a commanding East Bay vocalist versed in jazz, blues and R&B, launched her annual “Just Like a Woman” showcase in 2013 as she looked to transition from gig-hustling to building musical community.

By any measure she’s succeeded in grand style, turning the event into a singular gathering of female talent. This year’s stylistically diverse show, set for March 31 at Berkeley’s Freight & Salvage; includes Benin, Oakland blues belter EC Scott, and Berkeley-reared neo-soul singer Kimiko Joy.

Representing the rising generation there’s Oakland’s Lyla Neely, from the award-winning a cappella group Vocal Rush, and Berklee College-bound San Franciscan Maya Parades-Hernandez. With an historic encounter between the indomitable Linda Tillery and women’s music star Holly Near, this show is a blockbuster. All the singers perform with pianist and music director Tammy Lynn Hall & The Lillian Armstrong Tribute Band.
